The removal of Gender Queer: A Memoir – Maia Kobabe From the Carmel Central School District Library

Every household and family is vastly different. It's not the school's place to deem what's appropriate for all. The image depictions in this book run counter to what is appropriate in school and contains sexually explicit and pornographic depictions, which exceed the statutory definition of obscenity. The book included images that are not "age appropriate" for students.

Please kindly remove the book from the collection because the illustrations are sexually explicit.

One image in the book shows the author in a sex act with another partner. Another image, a young teen appears to engage in a sex act with a bearded man. The book contains illustrations of sexual contact, masturbation and a sex toy.
